Ideas. Sculpture

Design Principles
3D , Clinical, Graphics, Interactive Design, Photography, Product , User Experience, Virtual Reality.

Project Background
After much thought and research into the clinical setting of Altnagelvin I decided that the design path that I would follow would be that of Product Design.  For this, I will create an interactive 3d sculpture as an aid to encourage rehabilitation, recovery and well being of patients within this setting. I will do this through a visual and physical experience.
Project Description
In my initial planning  I have completed many sketches linked to the shape that the sculpture will form.  I have carried out some additional research into the selection of appropriate materials (weatherproof) that it will comprise of and am currently examining the mechanical elements of the design as it will include some element of movement.
It will be necessary for me to pay another visit to the site, to take measurements and photographs that will aid my 3d vision of the environment in which the sculpture will sit.  I am currently considering a height of 10ft for the sculpture and the incorporation of a lighting feature within it.  I have yet to give more thought to the internal structure and design and how I will make this project interactive.  I also need to examine the British Standards regarding this type of design and the relevant health and safety policies and procedures.
Research will also incorporate the examination of other designers work in this field.

Project Aspirations
I hope that the sculpture will be enjoyed by patients in this setting.  The environment in which it will be placed will be in full vision of such patients.  It is hoped that the sculpture will be so attractive that patients will want to get well enough to actually go down and examine the piece in person.

It is also hoped that the work will create a place of serenity where patients can sit, relax and enjoy the illustrations etc.  The work should evoke, an area of peace, wonder and delight in today’s technology combined with illustrations of the emotions of well being.
